On Friday December 29,2023 around 4pm the Verplanck Fire Department was dispatched to Steamboat dock for a body found floating near the shoreline.

We are sadden to announce the passing of Ex-Chief Walter J Laug.

Walter was a member of Verplanck FD for over 50 years and severed as Chief from 1979-1980. He was the pride of "The Point' and was known as "Mayor of Verplanck".

We will deeply miss Ex-Chief Walter Laug and his dedication to the Verplanck Fire Department.
